目からウロコの接客英語　飲食店レストラン受付４「テーブル席とカウンター席どちらがよろしいでしょうか」と英語で聞くには

お客様へご希望をこちらから聞く場合

前章で、喫煙席と禁煙席どちらがいいかという質問は、Would you like A or B?やWould you prefer A or B?という聞き方をすると述べました。同じように、テーブル席とカウンター席はどちらがよろしいでしょうか、という質問も同じフレーズを使います。

Would you like a table or a booth? 「テーブル席とボックス席どちらがよろしいですか」

I’d prefer a table in the corner.　「角のテーブル席がいいです」

Would you like a private dining room or a table?「個室かテーブル席、どちらがよろしいでしょうか」

We’d like a private room, please. 「個室をお願いします」

Would you prefer a table inside or outside?「中の席がいいですか、外のお席がよろしいでしょうか」

I’d prefer an outside table.　「外の席がいいです」

Would you prefer a table or a seat at the bar?「テーブル席がいいですか、カウンター席がよろしいですか」

I’d like to be seated at the bar. 「カウンター席がいいです」

こちらからお客様のご希望を聞くのにWould you likeかWould you preferというフレーズを使うのと同様、典型的なお客様からの返答はI would likeかその短縮形I’d like、I would preferか、その短縮形I’d preferというフレーズの後に、希望の席の名詞が続きます。

不定詞が入る場合は、I’d like to sit at a window table.やWe’d like to have a booth.もしくはWe would prefer to be seated at the bar.などと言えます。sit at tableは「テーブルに着席する、食卓に着く」という意味の成句です。seatは「席、椅子」という名詞のほかに、動詞で「座らせる、着席させる」という意味もあります。be seatedという受身形は、「座る、着席する」という意味で、sit downよりも丁寧な言い方になります。Please sit downですと単に「お座りください」ですが、Please be seatedは「ご着席ください」といった丁寧なニュアンスです。

入り口近くの席	a table by the entrance （entrance tableは受付机や入り口にある机）
ドア付近の席	a table by the door

ボックス席	a booth (boothは席という意味が含まれtableはつけない)
ソファー席	a table with sofa （sofa tableはソファの後ろに置く長テーブルの意味になる）
カウンター席	a counter seat a seat at the counter a bar seat (酒が飲めるカウンター席は全て) a seat at the bar (寿司カウンター席はa sushi bar seat)
外の席	an outside table a table outside
テラス席	a terrace table(テラスは地面より一段高い) a patio table(地面と同じ高さはパティオという) a table on terrace a table on patio
バルコニー席	a balcony table a table on balcony
座敷席（個室ではない着席の）	a Tatami table

選択肢を出さずにお客様のご希望を伺う場合

席の選択肢が沢山あり、「何かご希望はありますか？」と伺う場合は

Do you have a preference?
We have patio tables outside, upstairs tables on the balcony, booths and tables in the main dining room.「何かご希望はありますか？外にはパティオテーブル席があり、二階はバルコニーにテーブル席があり、メインダイニングにはテーブル席とボックス席がございます」

Preferenceとは「好み」という名詞で、「～をより好む」という動詞preferの名詞形です。have a preference for～は「～を好む」という熟語です。

例えば既に受付にてお客様のご希望を聞き、禁煙席エリアに案内しそのエリア内で、「どこに座りたいですか」と聞く場合は、

Where would you like to sit?「どちらの席がご希望ですか」

Where would you like to be seated?「どちらの席がご希望ですか」

と伺います。

お客様から希望を伝えられた場合

Do you have private dining rooms?「個室はありますか？」

Can we have a table by the window?「窓際のテーブル席は空いていますか」

Certainly, we have private rooms available today.「承知いたしました、今日ご利用可能の個室がございます」

Certainly, the window table is available right now.「承知いたしました、ただ今窓際のテーブル席もご用意可能です」

Certainly, I can seat you at the booth right away.「承知いたしました、ボックス席へすぐご案内できます」

お客様からのご要望の場合は、「(お店に)～ありますか」というDo you have～ か、「私(達)は～をもらえますか」Can I (we) have ～やMay I (we) have～のフレーズが使われます。お客様のご要望通り、お席を用意できる場合は、We have ～ available. か、～ is available.もしくは「席を用意し座らせる」という意味の動詞seatを使って、We(I) can seat 人 at ～.ということもできます。
