レストランでの接客英語：トイレを案内する場合
今回はレストランでの接客英語講座、案内編です。前回はレストランで席まで案内する英語表現を学習しました。今度はトイレの場所を聞かれた場合に案内する英文を学習しましょう。
まずトイレ、洗面所を指す言葉はいくつかあります。アメリカ英語では、Restroomと呼ばれ、Toiletという単語は便所、便器といった意味になり好まれません。しかしながら、イギリス英語ですとToiletが普通に使われます。Bathroomもトイレという意味の英語ですが、自宅やほかの人の家の中にあるトイレのことを言います。公共施設のトイレに関してはRestroomという表現の英単語を使うのが一番いいでしょう。
レストランでの接客英語：トイレの場所を聞かれた場合
トイレの場所を聞かれる場合の英語は
Do you have a restroom here?「ここにはトイレありますか？」
Where can I find the restroom?「トイレはどちらでしょうか」
Excuse me, could you please tell me where the restroom is?「すみません、お手洗いはどこか教えてくれますか？」
Sorry to bother you, but could you point me to the restroom?「すみませんが、お手洗いはどちらの方向か教えてくれませんでしょうか？」
レストランでの接客英語：お手洗いの場所を教える場合
それに対して、答える際の英語の例文は
Of course! Just go straight ahead, and you will find the restroom on your right.「もちろんです。真っすぐに行くと、右側にトイレがあります。」
Walk down that hallway, and you’ll see the restroom on the left-hand side.「廊下を進んでいくと、左手に洗面所があります。」
If you walk through the dining area, you’ll spot the restroom on your right.「ダイニングエリアを突っ切ると、右側にお手洗いがあります。」
The restroom is just past the kitchen area, on the left side.「お手洗いはキッチンを過ぎた先の左側にあります。」
Just head towards the entrance, and you’ll see the restroom sign on your right.「出入口の方へ行ってください。お手洗いの表示が右側に見えるはずです。」
The restroom is just around the corner to your left.「お手洗いは、その角を左側に行ったすぐのところにあります。」
角を曲がるという表現は、turn right「右に曲がる」という表現のほかにもmake a right turnやtake a right turnという表現も使えます。turnを省略して、make a rightやtake a rightと言うこともあります。紛らわしい表現でTurn to the rightというのは、首や体を向けて右を見るという意味ですので、間違えないようにしましょう。
真っすぐに進むという表現では、go straightでも通じますが、「(曲がらずにただ)直進する」という意味を指しています。go straight aheadは「(今歩いてきた方向から外れずにそのまま)真っすぐ進んでいく」という意味になりますので、道案内の際にはaheadを足した表現の方がいいでしょう。go straight on
Go downやWalk downやとは「下に下って歩く」という意味ではなく、道に沿って真っすぐ目的地まで行くことを意味しています。日本語でも東京から下る、地方から登るという表現をしますが、東京が山頂など高いところにあって、東京から地方へ下っていくといった意味ではないですよね。英語も似たような感覚で、go down, go upが、上がる下るの意味のほかに、真っすぐ進むという意味にもなります。
Head towardは「～に向かって進む」という意味で、ネイティブがGo toの代わりによく使う表現です。イギリス英語ではHead towardsとtowardにsがつく言い方もします。

レストランでの接客英語：レストラン内にはトイレがないと英語で伝える場合
We apologize for any inconvenience, but we do not have restrooms within the restaurant. 「ご不便お掛けして申し訳ございませんが、レストラン内にはお手洗いがありません。」
I apologize for any inconvenience. Our restaurant doesn’t have restrooms. 「ご不便お掛けして申し訳ございません。レストランにはお手洗いがございません。」
I’m sorry to say we don’t have restrooms on-site.「申し訳ございませんが、レストランのなかにはお手洗いがございません。」
レストランでの接客英語：レストランの外にビルの共同トイレがあると英語で伝える場合
If you exit the restaurant and turn left, you’ll see a communal restroom within the same building.「レストランを出て左に曲がると、同じビルの共同トイレがあります」
There’s a communal toilet available within the building, right outside the restaurant area.「共同トイレがビル内にあります。レストランエリアのすぐ外です。」
